Unless otherwise indicated, we dance from 8:00 to 11:00 p.m. at the United Church of Fayetteville in Fayetteville, NY.

CURRENT DANCES

Friday, January 1: Start the new year right. Come dancing! (Please note: We are dancing on Friday night rather than Saturday this first weekend.) David Smukler will be calling to the music of Nottingham Fair. Come a bit early to a Newcomer's Workshop for the New Year. Newcomers, bring an experienced dancer to the workshop with you, and you can get into the dance for half price.

Friday, January 8: Bob Nicholson calling with the Salt Potatoes.

Saturday, January 16: An English Country Dance with Carmen Giunta calling; music by Eileen Nicholson and John Wobus.

Friday, January 22: Sharon Perry calling to music by O'Shanigan's.

Saturday, January 30: An open microphone for callers. It will be a mix of new and old callers. Ever find yourself calling along to Chorus Jig inside the set? Now's your chance to strut your stuff. Great musical support by Hearts Delight. NOTE ALTERNATE LOCATION: Madison Hall in Morrisville, NY.

Saturday, February 6: Sarah VanNorstrand calling to the music of TuneScape.

Friday, February 12: No Syracuse Country Dancers event; check out the Dance Flurry.

Saturday, February 20: An English Country Dance with Richard Sauvain and Fine Companions.

Friday, February 26: Bob Nicholson calling with Long John and the Tights.

Saturday, March 6: Music by Montage and a plethora of exciting callers visiting for the annual CNY Callers Gathering.

Friday, March 12: Caller TBA; music by Miss Marty and SGB.

Saturday, March 20: An English Country Dance with Pamela Goddard, Kathy Selby and John Wobus.

Friday, March 26: David Smukler calls to the outstanding music of Foxfire. We are lucky to catch this band, skilled in playing for both contra and English dancing, on their way to the annual Binghamton Ball, where they are the featured band. Foxfire's inventive music is bound to captivate you. Both Daron Douglas from New Orleans (on fiddle) and Karen Axelrod from Vermont (on piano) are known individually for a rich and playful improvisatory style. When the two of them get together the synergy is extraordinary.
Saturday, April 3: Our annual CONTRA DANCE PROM. Sarah VanNorstrand will call to exciting music by Matching Orange that fuses multiple musical traditions. The Contra Prom is always a night to remember. You do not have to be "of prom age" to attend; all are welcome! Expect the best in refreshments and decorations. Dress up is encouraged (although that is interpreted widely). This is a happening dance!

HOW OUR SCHEDULE (usually...) WORKS

A typical month is scheduled as follows:

1st Weekend - a Saturday evening contra dance
2nd Weekend - a Friday evening contra dance
3rd Weekend - a Saturday evening English country dance
4th Weekend - a Friday evening contra dance
When there is a 5th weekend, we call it a "windfall weekend" and schedule a contra dance -- usually on Saturday, but it could be on Friday so check the schedule!

Sometimes, for one reason or another, we don't stick to the pattern. Here are exceptions in our current schedule:

  • January 1- Dancing Friday instead of Saturday on the first weekend of the month
  • January 30- Different location: Madison Hall in Morrisville, NY
  • February 12- No Syracuse Country Dancers event; check out the Dance Flurry

Our dances normally run from 8 pm to 11 pm, and take place at the United Church of Fayetteville. On most evenings admission is $7, although admission to "Cream of the Crop" dances is more. Our admission is discounted for young dancers or for those with limited incomes. Please speak to the door person if the admission price is burdensome for you. Admission can be further reduced or waived in exchange for helping out at the dance.

STILL HAVE QUESTIONS?

Email us.

Or, if you are interested in performing at our dances, contact Bob, who does our booking.

Or download the paper version of the schedule that we put out at the dances (nice for taping to the fridge). The file is in pdf format. (If you don't have Adobe Acrobat Reader, which can read the file, you can download it for free from the Adobe website.) (NOTE: If the schedule you download appears to be out of date, check back in a few days. We are an all-volunteer operation, and occasionally are unable to keep the paper schedule current.)

Or consider subscribing to our occasional email newsletters or weekly reminders list, which dispense information about upcoming dances.
